What to do with the ring?

So… it’s over, huh? Too long of a story to go into, you just know it won’t work out, they weren’t the right person, not now anyways.

But you have a ring, this expensive symbol of a love once shared. It’s too late to return it, the pawnshop won’t give you anything, and eBay is too flooded with other people’s jewelry for you to get a decent price. Leaving it on consignment is always a good choice, if you trust the store and don’t mind waiting an indefinite amount of time.

So what does one do with that ring?

Do you wait around for the next person to give it to? Seems rather u ... a button to read the full article text

We just love to give stuff away here. Not sure why, I can admit that we like the spike in traffic, of course, but we also love knowing that somewhere out there, someone gets a huge rush from getting a free piece of art.

So- in that vein, we are going to run one contest (or more!) per month from this blog. This month’s contest is for a giveaway of this sterling silver chain band. The band is designed by us, of course. We’ve carried this design for about a decade, and it has sold well. It is appx 5mm wide at its widest point, nice and heavy in build for long wear.   The Birth of a Ring

This ring was born in our store this past month. It isn’t just a simple process of scraping a chunk of silver off a block and gluing a gemstone down inside. It takes just a bit more work (and equipment!) than that…

Here you can observe- in painstaking detail- the conception, gestation, and final delivery of a custom designed ring from Wexford Jewelers.

It all begins with a wax model. This is extruded sheet wax that has been bent into the primary form, cut to shape, cut to size, and ... a button to read the full article text

  A Passion for Roses

There is something about a rose- perfectly furled silken petals, graceful tiny rosebuds waiting to open, and an almost fractal symmetry- nearly everyone loves roses. They come in so many varieties of color and shape and bloom, and they can even have health benefits!

We at Wexford Jewelers decided to celebrate the natural beauty of these blossoms by creating an entire line of rose jewelry. It has been selling quite well in our store and online for about a year now, and we would like to introduce you to some of the elements of this line: Pictured below: Our first fitted rose wedding set.< ... a button to read the full article text

Late 1997

Michael and I suddenly find ourselves with two months to throw a respectable wedding together. Not a shotgun wedding, just a rush due to business needs & living situation circumstances. I’m working at the store one day and the mother of my sister’s boyfriend whirls in. I’ll have to introduce you here to Judy Nichols, choir and chorale director at our local high school, piano player at our church, general musical angel at large. She always has a kind word for everyone around her, a quick laugh, and a beaming smile on her face. I mention to her that I would be honored to have her play at my wedding, and s ... a button to read the full article text

  Custom Challenge VIII

It was winter and the snow fell thick and silent around the store. We were up to our ears in custom work, but never too busy to turn away one more.

A woman came to us with a pile of scrap gold and a sapphire. She wanted a ring made for her daughter, a nurse here in Cadillac. Because of the physical demands of nursing, a high setting or multiple prongs can be very obstructive and even dangerous to patients. Our challenge was to build it securely, while making sure that there was nothing to catch, snag, scratch, or tear. The ring also had to be built heavy to withstand daily wear and tear.

We melted down her gold, added fresh, and set the ... a button to read the full article text
